Medical Care

Zanmitay Sant de Sante — Friends Helping Friends Health Centre

Our on-site Medical Clinic is a lifeline for our community. Operating three days a week, Zanmitay Sant de Sante provides accessible, affordable health care to hundreds of families who would otherwise go without.

In a region where hospitals are almost non-existent now, our clinic stands in the gap—meeting essential needs such as primary care, disease prevention, maternal and child health, and emergency treatment. Each day, patients line up seeking everything from basic check-ups and wound care to life-saving medications and prenatal services.

Led by a dedicated team of Haitian medical professionals and supported by international partners, the clinic not only treats illness but also focuses on prevention and education—empowering individuals with knowledge to keep their families healthy. Whether it’s providing vaccinations, addressing common infections, or responding to sudden crises, our clinic is a trusted place of hope and healing.

This essential service strengthens the entire community, ensuring that health care is not a privilege for a few but a shared foundation for all.

Medical Care Team

The facility is thoughtfully equipped with exam rooms, a dental room, a fully stocked pharmacy, laboratory, staff office, and a welcoming reception area—ensuring patients receive comprehensive care under one roof. We began seeing patients in 2011, and by 2013 the medical clinic building was fully constructed and operational, allowing us to expand our services significantly. The clinic has served on average of up to 5000 patients a year—the majority from our local community, as well as many from the surrounding countryside, where quality health services are often scarce or out of reach.

Meet

DR. BENJAMIN WILLIAMS JOHNNY

Dr. Benjamin Williams Jhonny is a compassionate general practitioner from Haiti, deeply committed to serving others and improving the health of his community. Born on July 25, 1991, in Verrettes, Haiti, he has always carried within him a passion for life, empathy, and science.

After completing his secondary education at Institution Mixte Joseph Claude Bernard, he pursued his medical studies at Université Quisqueya in 2014, following a calling that had long been burning in his heart — to heal, to serve, and to make a difference. Throughout his six years of training, he distinguished himself through discipline, courage, and an unwavering dedication to his patients and his mission.

His professional journey stands as a testament to hard work and devotion. Since October 2022, Dr. Benjamin has been serving in the Emergency and Pediatrics Departments at Hôpital Georges Gauvin in Grand-Goâve, where he provides attentive care and hope to every patient and every child he meets. Since April 2024, he has also been a service physician at Haiti Arise, a role that allows him to combine his medical expertise with his spiritual and humanitarian vision.

Before that, he gained experience across several renowned institutions, including Hôpital Saint Boniface de Fond des Blancs, Hôpital Saint Nicolas de Saint-Marc, Hôpital Cardinal Léger de Léogâne, and Sanatorium de Port-au-Prince, during his internship years. His dedication even led him abroad, where he completed an observation internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hôpital Haute-Pierre in Strasbourg, France, expanding his medical perspective and exposure to global healthcare standards.

As a former mentor in anatomy and human physiology at INFOPAC, Dr. Benjamin has proven to be not only a practitioner but also an educator, passionate about guiding and inspiring young medical students.

He is known for his energy, respect, teamwork spirit, and punctuality, qualities that define both his professional conduct and personal values. Skilled in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, he embraces modern tools while maintaining a strong human touch in all he does.

Beyond his professional life, Dr. Benjamin is a balanced and thoughtful individual who enjoys reading, music, sports, film, and continuous learning. He speaks Creole and French fluently, communicates well in English, and has a basic understanding of Spanish.

For Dr. Benjamin, medicine is far more than a career — it is a calling. Every patient is a person, every case is a mission, and every day in the hospital is an opportunity to make a difference. His devotion to the people of Grand-Goâve and beyond makes him a true example of passion, integrity, and service from the heart.

In addition to the daily operations of our on-site clinic, our medical team extends care directly into the community. About once a month, a small team travels into neighborhoods around Grand Goâve to host mobile community clinics—bringing essential medical services to those who are unable to travel to the health centre.

We go to them.

Our medical team goes out into the community to care for those who can’t make it to the clinic—testing blood pressure, delivering medicine, and offering support, especially to the elderly.

This remarkable woman, now in her 90s, used to come regularly to the clinic and to church. But these days, getting out isn’t easy. When we visited her, she smiled and said,

“I’m happy you didn’t forget about me.”

That’s why we do what we do.

Many of the patients served through these outreaches are elderly, isolated, or facing financial and transportation barriers. Most visits focus on blood pressure checks, a critical service in a country where hypertension often goes undiagnosed and untreated. By meeting people where they are, our team is able to identify health concerns early, provide basic treatment and education, and refer patients back to the main clinic for follow-up care when needed.

These monthly community clinics strengthen trust, expand access, and ensure that even the most vulnerable have the opportunity to receive compassionate, quality health care.

Every Mother Deserves a Safe Birth.

Haiti has the highest maternal and newborn mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere. With 75% of women delivering without a skilled birth attendant, far too many lives are lost—359 women for every 100,000 births, compared to just 7 in North America.

The crisis is made worse by poverty, distance from care, and a severe shortage of trained professionals—just 100 obstetricians and 201 nurse-midwives for over 10 million people.

At Haiti ARISE, we’re changing that. Our vision is to provide a safe, home-like birthing center with skilled midwives offering prenatal, birth, and postnatal care, along with nutrition support for babies up to age one. We currently serve 120 mothers and babies every week.

We may not know the full stories of the women and newborns we’ve lost—but we do know this: they deserve better.

Let’s give them a safe place to begin.

Will You Stand in the Gap?

In a region where medical care is scarce and suffering is great, our clinic is often the only place families can turn. When someone walks through our doors in pain, we want to say “yes” — yes to medicine, yes to care, yes to hope.

Your support makes that possible. It puts life-saving medicine in hands, comfort and dignity in hearts, and healing within reach. Every gift is more than a donation — it’s a lifeline for someone who has nowhere else to go.

Together, we can make sure no one is turned away.
